We are thrilled to be a part of this exclusive agency community. Since we often get asked what it means to be a part of this program, we wanted to take a moment to explain…
What is the Google Developers Agency program?
The Developers Agency program is a Google initiative to educate, train, and connect the best agencies in the world with Google and its technologies. Members get invited to training events, early access to emerging Google technologies (pre-alpha and alpha products!), 1:1 interactions with internal Google teams and support, and more. Google promises: “[Google]’ll work with you to ensure you’re at the top of your game so you can deliver the best apps to fit your clients’ needs.”
How does an Agency get into the program?
We don’t know the secret formula, but we do know that an agency must show deep competence in Google technologies. This of course means demonstrating deep skill with Android, Google Cloud, and Google’s web technologies. But it also means that an agency must have real examples of success with Google technologies on a large scale. Our work with The Rock Clock, Jet.com, Hamilton, and others helped us to get certified in the first cohort of 20 agencies.
How has Posse and its clients benefited from the Program?
As a team we’ve benefitted greatly from the program — and so have our clients. We’ve attended numerous events and training sessions that have expanded our knowledge of Android, Google Cloud, the Play Store, Material Design, and more. We are able to translate all of this knowledge into our client work.
The biggest impact has come from getting early access to emerging Google technologies. The most obvious example of this is our collaboration with the Google Flutter Team during the development of the Hamilton app.
Posse + Hamilton + Flutter: A Google Agency Program Case Study
Flutter is an emerging cross-platform framework being developed by Google. The framework serves as a high-performance toolkit that allows developers to create iOS and Android apps from a single codebase. Flutter was still in alpha back in early 2017, and while it had some large internal customers at Google, the Flutter team was looking for a big commercial success to prove its value to the global developer community.
Posse and Flutter were connected through the Developer Agency program. We got to talking, and we found a mutual admiration for the work our teams were doing. Then it happened, the Broadway musical Hamilton tapped Posse to develop their app — and they were interested in using Flutter.
Because Posse has a tight connection with Google and Flutter, we were able to broker a partnership between the three companies — Hamilton provided the ideas/fans/resources, Posse developed the app in Flutter, and Google provided direct support and 1:1 interaction with the Flutter team.
The results were exceptional. The app launched to rave reviews and was a smashing success — and all because of the Google Agency Program.
