A new Facebook messenger app for kids, a bad week of software glitches for Apple, and a follow-up product from the Vine co-creator. Check out our top tech reads from last week!

  1. Apple’s had a shockingly bad week of software problems. The nightmare started on Tuesday, after a Twitter user disclosed a critical security vulnerability for macOS High Sierra that allowed anyone with physical access to a Mac to gain system administrator privileges without even entering a password.   2. Facebook Has a New Messaging App Aimed at Those 13 and Under. Facebook’s new app, Messenger Kids, is the social network’s first major foray into connecting children under 13 to its sprawling set of services. (NYT Tech)
  3. Vine creator is working on a ‘follow-up to Vine'. Vine co-creator Dom Hofmann tweeted on Thursday afternoon that he’s preparing to work on a “follow-up” to the beloved 6-second, infinitely looping app. And he’s doing it in response to, perhaps, calls from the legions of devoted Vine creators.(Mashable)
  4. Trillium aims to shield your high-tech car against cyberattacks. Cars these days are basically computers with wheels, and as with other computers, you’ll probably want to make a few changes to protect against cyberthreats. Trillium is looking to be the security solution for in-car computer systems, adding extra encryption, intrusion detection and other firewall-like features. (TechCrunch)
  5. The Winklevoss twins are now Bitcoin billionaires. The twins, famously known for suing Mark Zuckerberg after claiming he stole their idea for Facebook, are now Bitcoin billionaires. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss invested $11 million into Bitcoin in 2013, amassing one of the largest portfolios of Bitcoin in the world. Their slice of the Bitcoin pie is now worth over $1 billion after Bitcoin surged past $10,000 last week to now trade at $11,100. (The Verge)
